Spotmau Password Kit is the updated version of their popular Password Genius tool, which was first released in 2006 and has since then been downloaded over 60,000 times.
It its new version, the Password Kit is a very user-friendly and intuitive tool which does not require any Windows administration knowledge to find out lost passwords (and even Windows CD keys).
It is claimed to work with all Windows versions, and in our tests it does indeed work at least with the popular XP and Vista (and of course with the older versions). Windows 7 support is also available. A major advantage is that you can blank out even administrator account passwords, which are otherwise impossible to reset with Windows alone:
In addition to recovering Windows passwords, the kit also includes a utility for recovering mail passwords, which works with Outlook, Outlook Express, GMail, Yahoo Mail, Hotmail, MSN Mail, and some others. It can also find messenger passwords (MSN, Windows Live, AIM, etc) and password for Microsoft Office tools such as Access. An interesting feature is that the tool can search through autocomplete records of browsers and other programs to find out passwords which you have typed sometime, but forgotten later.
We have tested it with Microsoft Outlook and MSN Live, and the recovery rate was 100%. While the tool cannot recover passwords for some more exotic programs, it is definitely a good choice for most practical needs.
Another feature of the kit which is almost borderline illegal (of course, with the obligatory disclaimer that it has to be used for private purposes only, and only with a Windows version that you have purchased) is the ability to find out lost Windows serial and CD keys:
Overall, the kit has a lot of power with a friendly user interface, and can be recommended without reservations for most users who need to retrieve or blank out a lost password.
