My system freezes, what can I do?

This is a very common question. First, you need to identify when the problem occurs - at boot time, when you do something specific, or simply out of nowhere. Usually it is one of the first two options, if it is the last one then chances are high that you have a defective RAM module, or a mainboard problem - in that case it might be hard to get around Replacing Hardware.

However, if the problem occurs when the system is booting, things look better. If you have recently added any new hardware, try removing it again and booting once more. If you just installed a new driver, or a new system-near program, it is also a likely culprit. For fixing such software-caused errors at boot time, you can first try to boot in Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs. If it does not, deinstall the new program/driver and you should be set. If it does, you might have to a create a bootdisk and boot from that to repair the Windows installation.
